A weekly invitation to transform from the inside out.
Happy Seed-Day!
Here's an idea (The Seed), a way to go deeper (The Soil), and a journal prompt (The Root) to explore.
I. The Seed
Most of a life is spent doing more: building something, fixing something, becoming something. So stopping feels like falling behind.
It is the other way around. The meaningful part is often not doing more. It is stopping long enough to witness what is already in front of you.
Do that, and for a moment you remember how small you are. Strangely, that does not make your life feel less important. It makes it feel more precious.
Stop, and look.
II. The Soil
Read: The Summer Day by Mary Oliver, the poem where she spends a whole morning watching one grasshopper wash its face. Her answer to what the day was for: "I don't know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention."
Then sit with this: what you stop to look at is what you end up loving.
III. The Root
When did you last stop with nothing to catch and nowhere to be, and simply look? What were you looking at?
What is already in front of you that you keep paddling past on the way to what comes next?
Until next week,
Jay Sueno
