DEVELOP YOUR INDIVIDUAL SENSE OF STYLE, BEAUTY, AND CONTROL

"Surfers are the 'throw-aheads' of mankind, not the dregs; they aren't the black sheep of humanity, but the futurists and they are leading the way to where man ultimately wants to be. The act of the ride is the epitome of 'be here now', and the tube ride is the most acute form of that. Which is: your future is right ahead of you, the past is exploding behind you, your wake is disappearing, your footprints are washed from the sand. It's a non-productive, non-depletive act that's done purely for the value of the dance itself. And that is the destiny of man."

-Timothy Leary

WHERE THE ISLAND LEARNS TO SURF

This October the best surfers in the world arrive at Cloud 9 for the World Surf League Championship Tour, the first time the elite tour has ever come to the Philippines. Five minutes down the beach, Jacking Horse is where the island actually learns to surf. It is the friendliest beginner wave in General Luna, and it is the beach we are built on.

Your coach meets you at the level you are actually at, not the one on the booking form. The right board, a wave with some patience in it, and someone in the water whose whole job is you. And when you come in, salt-tired and hungry, the massage table and the coffee are twenty steps from the sand.

THE ONE WE WOULD BOOK

WAVE & RECOVER

2 HOURS IN THE WATER · 60 MINUTES OF HILOT · BOARD TILL SUNSET

₱3,400

Two hours in the water at Jacking Horse, then sixty minutes of Hilot on the campus. The board stays with you till sunset, so you can paddle back out on your own once your body knows what it is doing.

Surfing takes more out of you than anyone tells you before their first lesson. Your shoulders, your lower back, the muscles you have not used since you were a child. Most people find out the next morning.

This is the version where you do not. Come in from the water, rinse off, and lie down. Our therapists are trained in Hilot, the Filipino healing art of finding what you are holding before you can name it. They will find the paddle in your shoulders.

Book it once and you will understand why we put the spa on the beach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can beginners surf at Cloud 9 in Siargao? +
We do not teach beginners at Cloud 9. It breaks over shallow reef, the wave is fast and heavy, and a first lesson there is the wrong kind of hard. Jacking Horse Beach is where Siargao beginners belong: a sand and reef bottom with a long forgiving wall, five minutes down the beach. You will catch more waves and enjoy them more. Cloud 9 is for watching.
Is Cloud 9 a World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour venue? +
Yes. After years of hosting Qualifying Series events, Cloud 9 joins the elite WSL Championship Tour in 2026. The Philippines Pro runs October 31 to November 10, the first Championship Tour event ever held in the Philippines. It breaks a five minute walk up the beach from us. When the contest runs, watch the world's best in the morning and take your own lesson at Jacking Horse in the afternoon. Same swell, friendlier wave.
Where is Jacking Horse Beach in Siargao? +
Jacking Horse Beach is in Barangay Catangnan, General Luna, on Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. It sits a five minute walk from Cloud 9 and a short ride from the General Luna town center. Our campus is right on the beachfront: surf operations, spa, villa and cafe on one property, twenty steps from the sand.
What is Jacking Horse Beach like for surfing? +
Jacking Horse is a rolling beach break with consistent, forgiving waves, ideal for learning and for intermediate surfers building confidence. It's right in front of our spa and villa. You can paddle out, get solid time in the water, and walk straight to a massage after. No hustle, no crowds.
Do I need experience to start surfing in Siargao? +
None at all. Beginner sessions start on the sand, we cover board positioning, paddling, and how to pop up, then move straight into the water at Jacking Horse Beach. Most guests catch their first wave within the session. The instructor reads the conditions and guides you the entire time.
Do I need to be able to swim to take a surf lesson? +
Yes. You should be comfortable in water over your head before you take a lesson. Tell us at booking if you are not a confident swimmer and we will talk it through with you honestly rather than putting you somewhere you should not be.
What happens if the surf conditions are bad on the day? +
We move your session. Jacking Horse works across a wide tide range, but some mornings are better than others and we would rather move you than waste your time. Lessons run with the tide, not the calendar, so your start time may shift with conditions. We confirm with you in advance.
Where do you surf in Siargao? Jacking Horse, Cloud 9, or secret spots? +
Beginner sessions are at Jacking Horse Beach. Advanced coaching can include Cloud 9, Cemetery, Stimpy's, Rock Island, and breaks you won't find on any map, accessible by boat or motorcycle. The right spot depends on your level and the swell on the day. Your coach decides where you go.
How much do surf sessions cost in Siargao? +
Beginner lessons are ₱2,500 for two hours, or ₱1,400 for one hour. The Line-Up, our progression coaching for surfers already past standing up, is ₱3,500 for two hours. Two people can share a coach: ₱4,400 for the Beginner Duo and ₱5,400 for The Line-Up Duo, both prices for the pair. Wave & Recover pairs a two-hour lesson with a sixty-minute Hilot massage and the board till sunset for ₱3,400. Session packs are ₱6,900 for three and ₱10,500 for five. Every lesson includes your coach, board, rashguard and beach theory.
Can I book a surf lesson and a massage together in Siargao? +
Yes. That is Wave & Recover, ₱3,400: two hours in the water at Jacking Horse, then sixty minutes of Hilot massage on the campus twenty steps from the sand, and the board stays with you till sunset. Surfing loads your shoulders, lats and lower back harder than most people expect, and the soreness usually arrives the next morning. Booking the massage the same day is how you avoid losing tomorrow. It is the thing we would book ourselves.
What surfboard should I rent? +
Beginners: start on a 9-foot longboard. Stable, easy to paddle, built for learning to pop up. Intermediate surfers transitioning down should try a 7- to 8-foot midlength. Shortboards and fishes are for surfers already comfortable on a midlength. If you're not sure, message us and we'll point you to the right board.
Can I rent a surfboard at Jacking Horse Beach without taking a session? +
Yes. Board rentals run from ₱250 per hour to ₱19,000 per month. We have longboards, midlengths, shortboards, and fishes available. Message us on WhatsApp to check availability and hold your board before you arrive.
Do I need a wetsuit to surf in Siargao? +
No wetsuit needed, ever. The water at Jacking Horse stays between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius year-round. Boardshorts and a rash guard for sun protection are all you need. Siargao is one of the few surf destinations where you're in pure tropical warmth from your first paddle to your last wave.
When is the best time to surf in Siargao? +
March through May brings clean, smaller swells. The best window for beginners and intermediates. September through December is peak swell season, when Cloud 9 and the outer breaks come to life for advanced surfers. The dry season (November to May) generally means cleaner conditions and offshore winds in the mornings.
Is Siargao good for beginner surfers? +
Yes, despite its reputation for Cloud 9, Siargao has excellent beginner breaks. Jacking Horse Beach is consistent, forgiving, and perfect for learning. Your instructor will read the conditions and put you on the right waves for your level. First-timers do well here. The island rewards patience.
What other surf spots are near Jacking Horse Beach? +
Within riding distance: Cemetery (a right-hand reef, intermediate to advanced), Stimpy's (a long fun right-hander), and Cloud 9 (advanced surfers only). By boat, Daku Island and Rock Island offer excellent conditions for surfers ready to explore beyond Jacking Horse. Our coaches know every break and will take you where the swell is best.
Can you take me to secret surf spots or outer islands? +
Yes. We run boat trips and motorcycle rides to breaks beyond Jacking Horse, including Rock Island, Daku, and spots that don't appear on any map. These sessions are for intermediate and advanced surfers ready to explore Siargao's full coastline. Additional transport fees apply for anything beyond Jacking Horse and Cloud 9.
Do you offer surf photography or drone footage during sessions? +
Drone footage, yes. We arrange it on request with an established local drone operator, so tell us when you book and we will quote you a price for your session. Same-day video review with your coach is coming once our media team is hired, and we would rather tell you that than sell it before it exists.
How does surfing at Vultun connect to the rest of the wellness program? +
Surfing opens the body up. Everything else at Vultun helps you recover and come back stronger. After your session: Hilot and Thai massage for muscle recovery, movement classes for hip mobility and paddle strength, sound healing to reset the nervous system. You can do all of it in one day, steps from the break.
What do you do on flat days in Siargao? +
Flat days happen, especially in the dry season. That's what the rest of Vultun is for. Book a massage, drop into a movement or barre class, try a sound bath, or spend the morning at the wellness cafe. Some guests plan their flat days on purpose. We'll give you honest swell intel when you book so you can plan accordingly.
Do Siargao locals and residents get a discount on surf lessons? +
Yes. Residents get 10% off all surf sessions, verified at reception. This island taught us to surf; the least we can do is make it easier for the people who live here to learn too.
How do I book a surf session or board rental? +
Everything is booked through WhatsApp. Message us with your dates, experience level, and what you're after: beginner session, advanced coaching, a board rental, or a boat trip to the outer islands. We'll match you with the right setup. No forms, no booking system. Just a conversation.
