A weekly invitation to transform from the inside out.

Happy Seed-Day!

Here's an idea (The Seed), a way to go deeper (The Soil), and a journal prompt (The Root) to explore.

New this week: give someone you love time in Siargao. Every package is 10% off when you give it as a gift card.

I. The Seed

The world will measure your life by what you built. At the end, you will measure it by who you loved.

Most of us live by the first measure and die by the second.

What if you started using the second one now?

Build what you want. Love like it is the thing that lasts.

II. The Soil

Watch: The Deathbed Doctor, Dr. Christopher Kerr on The Diary of a CEO. Kerr is a hospice physician who has sat with dying patients for nearly 30 years. Halfway through, Steven Bartlett puts two lists side by side: what medical students guessed would matter to the dying, and what hospice patients actually said. The students put feeling that life was meaningful near the top. The patients ranked it eighth. Their first answer was not being a burden to the people they love. Their second was time with friends and family. Asked who leaves most at peace, Kerr didn't name the accomplished: "The love given and received. That's the only thing that matters." And for the rest of us: "You want to live in a way that you can die well, and that means loving well."

Then sit with this: the people at the end of their lives aren't counting what they did. They're counting who was there.

III. The Root

Who do you want in the room at the end? When did you last give them an afternoon with nothing else in it?

Which "measure" are you living by this month? What would you do this week if you used the other one?

Hit reply and tell me your answer.

Until next week,

Jay Sueno

PS - Christmas is less than eight weeks away. A Siargao gift card takes two minutes to send: give one here.
