A weekly invitation to transform from the inside out.
Happy Seed-Day!
Here's an idea (The Seed), a way to go deeper (The Soil), and a journal prompt (The Root) to explore.
I. The Seed
You do not have to build the whole vision today. You only have to take the next step.
So shrink the question until it has an answer: what can I finish today? This morning? In the next hour? Then finish it.
A closed loop hands you energy. An open loop takes it back. The vision sets the direction, but momentum does the carrying.
Dream in years. Work in hours.
II. The Soil
Read: Atomic Habits by James Clear, the chapter on the Two-Minute Rule: "When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do." Read before bed becomes read one page. Run three miles becomes tie my running shoes. The smallness is the strategy, not the compromise. He writes that "a habit must be established before it can be improved," and that "the point is to master the habit of showing up."
Then sit with this: a habit cannot be improved until it exists. Start smaller than feels serious.
III. The Root
What is one loop I have been leaving open, and what could I close in the next hour?
Look at the vision you keep calling someday. What is its next step, and when today will you take it?
Until next week,
Jay Sueno
PS - There is a longer, more personal letter behind this one. The Long Paddle is my weekly writing on business, family, health, and building a life in Siargao. It is free at jaysueno.substack.com.
