THE VULTUN SIARGAO MASSAGE EXPERIENCE
You're lying on the massage bed. The waves are five meters away. Salt air moves through the open walls of the shala. Your therapist finds the knot in your shoulder before you can point to it.
This is massage at Vultun Spa, Siargao. Beachfront bodywork at Jacking Horse Beach, where our therapists practice traditional Filipino Hilot alongside Swedish, Thai, and deep tissue techniques.
But what you do after your session matters as much as what happens during it. The next few hours determine whether the benefits last a day or a week. Here's how to extend that feeling.
Traditional Beachside Shala
The shala sits on the sand at Jacking Horse Beach, near Cloud 9. Local wood, natural materials, open walls. You hear the ocean during your entire session.
As you lie on the massage bed, the rhythmic sound of waves and the gentle sea breeze create a natural soundtrack. This is not background music played through a speaker. It is the actual ocean.
Diverse Massage Offerings
Nine massage styles and three energetic healing modalities. From deep tissue to Reiki and Access Bars. Each treatment addresses something specific.
Our signature is traditional Filipino Hilot massage. A centuries-old healing practice that uses your body's natural heat to locate tension and stimulate healing points. Most Siargao spas don't offer it. We do.
Expert Therapists and Personalized Care
Before your massage, our therapists conduct a detailed questionnaire to understand your needs and preferences. Pressure, problem areas, injuries, goals.
As one of our therapists, Rose, puts it: "Every body tells a story. Our job is to listen and respond with the most beneficial treatment possible."
THE SCIENCE BEHIND POST-MASSAGE CARE
Physiological Effects of Massage
Massage triggers real physiological changes. Blood flow increases. Cortisol drops. Muscle tension releases stored lactic acid. Your lymphatic system activates.
As our co-founder and licensed Physical Therapist, Allegra De Borja, explains: what you do in the hours after determines how well your body integrates those changes.
Optimizing Recovery Through Mindful Practices
Mindfulness practices can extend the physical benefits of massage by keeping your nervous system in a parasympathetic state. Don't rush back into stimulation.
Our therapists are trained in energetic healing: Hilot, Reiki, and Access Bars. Take time to reflect. Maybe pick up your journal and write what thoughts arose during your session.
WHAT TO DO AFTER YOUR SIARGAO MASSAGE
Hydrate with Nature's Bounty
Post-massage hydration is crucial. In Siargao, nature provides the solution. Fresh coconut water from local vendors is refreshing and packed with electrolytes to replenish your body.
Want something more? Visit Cocopelli Juice Bar for organic smoothies with adaptogens.
Gentle Movement and Stretching
Light activity after your massage helps prolong its benefits. Take a barefoot walk along the Jacking Horse beach trail. Let the sand massage your feet naturally.
Feeling a bit more active? Join a yoga or barre class at Feral Movement. Or a gentle swim in the calm waters out front.
Embrace the Island's Stillness
Siargao's pace is a built-in recovery tool. After your massage, let that pace do its work. Sit in the shade. Watch the water. Don't reach for your phone.
For a deeper practice, join a sound healing or meditation session at Holding Space. It's the perfect complement to bodywork: massage releases the physical tension, sound healing settles the nervous system.
Heat Therapy, Island Style
Heat therapy helps your body heal and recover. It circulates blood into the areas your therapist worked on. Siargao's warm climate offers natural heat therapy. Try lying in warm sand. It relaxes your muscles further and extends the benefits of your massage.
For structured recovery, visit our biohacking page to learn about contrast therapy, sauna, and red light therapy coming to our Malinao location.
WHAT NOT TO DO AFTER YOUR SIARGAO MASSAGE
Avoid Dehydrating Substances
A tropical cocktail is tempting. But alcohol and caffeine counteract the hydrating effects of your massage. Give your body at least two hours before that first drink. Instead, try fresh fruit juices. Siargao has plenty.
Postpone Strenuous Activities
Give your body time to integrate the benefits. Instead of hitting the waves immediately, consider a gentle stand-up paddleboarding session in the calm lagoon. Or lay on the beach and read.
The white sand beaches in Santa Fe are a short ride away. Quiet, uncrowded, perfect for a post-massage afternoon.
Don't Ignore Pain or Discomfort
Some soreness is normal, especially after deep tissue work. Significant pain is not. Our therapists are always available for a post-massage check-in.
Message us on WhatsApp or email for any questions after your treatment.
EXTEND YOUR RECOVERY
Stay at Vultun Villa
Continue your recovery at Vultun Villa, right on the beach. Ocean views, concierge service, and breakfast made for you each morning. Book your massage, walk to the shala, and walk back to your room.
Energetic Healing
Complement your massage with our energetic healing offerings.
- Access Bars: A gentle hands-on technique that releases energetic blockages by touching specific points on the head.
- Reiki: A Japanese technique using gentle touch to promote relaxation, stress reduction, and healing.
- Ear Seeds: Acupressure devices placed on specific ear points for pain relief, insomnia, and comfort.
Movement and Pilates
Feral Pilates is Siargao's first Reformer Pilates studio, led by licensed Physical Therapist Allegra De Borja. Pilates strengthens your core, improves flexibility, and complements massage by building the structural support your body needs.
You can also join yoga, barre, or dance classes at Feral Movement, or book a sound healing session at Holding Space. Both are at SOS Gym in Malinao.
BOOK YOUR MASSAGE
Your massage is not a one-time escape. It is the beginning of how your body learns to recover. Follow these tips. Let the island do the rest. And when you're ready for another session, book directly through our spa page or message us on WhatsApp.
